Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update January 2010
Rain at last!

January in Legodimo was a month of new things. The rains have finally started!

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update December 2009
The silly season is upon us and another year at an end.

We had lots of sad goodbyes and even all the remaining staff went off for a well deserved break and time with their loved ones.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update November 2009
Even hotter!!!! Car trouble and more car trouble and loads of good conservation!

November was extremely hot but at least we had some rain which makes a huge difference in temperature as well as smells, colours and the number of creatures that emerge from their hiding spots.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update October 2009
HOT! October is one of the harshest times of the year. Temperatures can reach the high forties and sometimes even fifties. Celcius!

We have had a couple more millimetres of rain for which we are very thankful, but we need the raining season to start now. Most of the trees have started budding and the bush is starting to look lovely and green again.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update September 2009
September was a month of change. Spring is here in full swing and most trees and other plants are flowering and here and there life is starting to come back in full force.

Legodimo Nature Reserve Update: Monthly Update August 2009
Eventful!!! Eventful doesn't begin to describe the last month!

August saw us digging, hammering, chopping, hammering and more digging.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update July 2009
July means cold. It gets more and more difficult to get up in the mornings, but we soldiered on.

The colours of the bush start changing and available surface water gets less and less which means sightings at our waterholes get more interesting and eventful.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update June 2009
June was yet another very exciting month in the bush.

Work on the next waterhole and observation deck has started in full swing. This means loads more digging. Our plan with this waterhole is to have it as natural as possible to thus allow animals more access and elephants amongst others to enjoy mud bathing, splashing and generally just playing.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update May 2009
The beginning of May saw the beginning of winter. The bush is changing drastically and the wildlife is getting ready for the dry season. Nights and early mornings are getting colder and colder. Daytime temperatures are very pleasant and this is one of the most beautiful times of the year. Our night sky has also changed – Orion is now invisible and Scorpio has made an appearance

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update April 2009
April is always one of the most beautiful times of the year in Legodimo. The temperatures are moderate and the bush is still really green. Mosquitoes have nearly all gone and the nights are getting cooler and cooler.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update March 2009
This month was one of the most eventful we’ve had in a long time and included the infamous BIG hole!

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update February 2009
February was a busy month, the heat has subsided a bit and everyone is in good spirits.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update January 2009
January started off with a bang as we had a large number of volunteers. Everyone was excited, well rested and ready to go!

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update December 2008
December was a month of enlightment concerning admin. With the input of some volunteers and teamwork, we’ve now basically perfected our data base and have made progress with the drawing up of a detailed map. The projection of data has now become a lot easier, so transferring information has become more manageable.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update November 2008
This month we finally finished the road leading to the new boreholes. The volunteers went to bed that night feeling relieved and proud. It was a tough and challenging project that took 8 months to finish, but every drop of sweat was worth it.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update October 2008
We've had a busy month here at the conservation project and our world is finally going green again now we have had our first rains.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update September 2008
Gerrit, the Director of our Conservation Project updates us on all the news from South Africa and Botswana.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update April 2008
The last month at Legodimo Nature Reserve has indeed been a busy one. The Volunteers have been busy mapping the reserve using the GPS, naming existing roads and some of the geographical landmarks. The creation of a new road, linking two of the existing main roads, in the Northern half of the reserve is well underway and making good progress.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update March 2008
7 months into the project and were still going strong, after completing our first water hole a short walk along the river , we have decided to begin another right in the front of the camp, this will eventually mean the further attraction of wildlife making the Legodimo camp even more of a paradise retreat.

Conservation in South Africa - Monthly Update September 2007
The conservation project at Legodimo reserve in Botswana has been developing rapidly. We now have a clear view of the Limpopo River thanks to our volunteers who spent a hard day's work with their machetes. This means we can observe any wildlife from around the camp fire and gives curious animals the opportunity to investigate our camp. We have four regular visitors a genet, a porcupine, a bush buck and last but not least the camp's pet kudu named Moses.
